ThinkHQ/Metro News Poll
Thursday’s provincial budget is a pivotal one for the NDP. Conventional wisdom would suggest that a new government faced with outside economic challenges beyond their control, as the NDP are today, would garner little blame for economic misfortune. Conventional wisdom is wrong.
Economists may question whether or not it is a fair evaluation, but according to a recent ThinkHQ/Metro News Poll, the NDP are starting to take the blame – as far as many Albertans are concerned:
- Just over 1/2 (51%) of Alberta voters believe the NDP government is at least somewhat responsible for the province’s poor economic performance, compared with only 45% who believe they are not.
- Even 1-in-5 past NDP voters (from May 2015) feel the government bears at least some of the blame.
Albertans also have a low confidence in the NDP government’s ability to implement policies that will improve Alberta’s economic condition:
- 63% of Albertans are not confident in the NDP government’s ability to improve our current economic state. Only 30% are confident and another 8% are unsure.
- Roughly one-third of the NDP’s 2015 vote base are not confident in the government’s abilities to improve Alberta’s economic condition.
